Achieving the Impossible: Why Persistence Matters in Life and Education
Amal Mattu, MD, professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, shared his personal journey of persistence in life and education through his TedTalk-style lecture, "A Thousand-Mile Journey," during the University of Maryland, Baltimore Faculty Convocation on Sept. 14, 2023.Mattu, a self-described "EKG nerd," shares how an experience with a patient's recovery from a heart attack inspired him to change and to study reading electrocardiography reports, which led him to wanting to publish a book, become a professor, and more. The moral of the story is that life is but a thousand-mile journey where it just takes a single step to begin anything you want to accomplish in life. And yes, Steve Martin's journey on learning how to play the banjo can even help you learn to never give up on yourself.#TedTalk #EKG #medschool
