We are excited to release the Spring 2024 issue of the University of Maryland, Baltimore's (UMB) CATALYST magazine, a showcase of our collective achievements, innovations, and unwavering spirit that defines the University.
Innovation and discovery are extensive at UMB. The School of Medicine’s $29 million research to improve health outcomes in people who are hospitalized with infectious complications after injecting opioid drugs and the School of Pharmacy leading an effort to create a new research tool to advance health equity are just two examples. In this edition, you’ll also read about artificial intelligence-assisted diagnostics at the School of Dentistry and about UMB’s work around the globe.
You'll also get to know Emily Hurst, MSLS, the new dean of the Health Sciences and Human Services Library, and chief philanthropy officer and vice president Greg Bowden as well as Maryland Carey Law alum Craig Thompson, who serves as the Maryland Stadium Authority chairman.
The seven schools at this great university are guided by our common mission to improve the human condition and serve the public good. Learn about Fahren Nipple, MS, an autopsy assistant in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Maryland as well as the assistant program director for the Master of Science in Forensic Medicine at the Graduate School. You also can read about the University’s new “Climate Change, Health, and Society” elective, the Francis King Carey School of Law’s 200th anniversary, and much more!
