Project Feast is a student organization at the University of Maryland School of Medicine that is putting together a free Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Booker T. Washington Middle School for the underserved population of Baltimore. For the 35th annual Project Feast event, we are sponsored by the Medical Alumni Association (MAA) and University Student Government Association (USGA).   Here’s how we could use your help: Volunteer: Help spread the word about this event, bake turkeys before Thanksgiving, or volunteer serving the day of the event! Please sign up to volunteer using this link: https://forms.gle/P43s3wtjggSDyU8h9 Host a screening: We are looking for student groups interested in partnering with Project Feast to offer health screenings and/or health resources during the event, such as blood pressure screening, medication guidance, etc. If your student group is interested, please email us (projectfeastumb@gmail.com). Donate: Gently used clothing, toys, nonperishable food items, and toiletries. Be on the lookout for an email once donation boxes are set up around campus. Community Meals are an opportunity for community members, UMB students, faculty and staff to sit down and enjoy a delicious meal together from a local restaurant while learning more about opportunities offered by the Office of Community Engagement and our local partners. Community meal occur quarterly and alternate between lunch and dinner. Registration is required to volunteer for community meals.  Volunteers are needed to support with set up, food serving, greeting, sign in, and cleaning up after the meal. The time commitment is two hours.  Please note that due to capacity this opportunity is limited to individual sign-ups. Student, staff, and community groups interested in volunteering should contact the OCE directly to learn more about group volunteering opportunities. UMB Students: Successful completion of the UMB Service and Volunteer Micro-course is required to participate in this opportunity. We know Christmas can be expensive, and we know parents want to give good gifts to their kids.  At The Christmas Store, we sell brand new toys at a more affordable price point, so every parent can be the hero of their Christmas. All proceeds from the store are donated to local organizations that support youth initiatives in Southwest Baltimore. So not only does your shopping help your family, but it also helps your community.It takes several volunteers each day of the week of Christmas Store to make this event happen. From, pricing toys, set up, helping shoppers and running the cash register, there are various positions available for various skill levels and ages. Consider donating your time and volunteers! Volunteers can register for various jobs at different times!
