Eighth Grade From West Baltimore

Five students from West Baltimore, a neighborhood of extreme violence, drugs and poverty, face the challenge of proving themselves in 8th grade while dealing with their identity as African American teens and the discrimination and racism confronting them daily. In 8th grade, they face their first hurdle for a better life as they apply for acceptance by Baltimore’s competitive college preparatory high schools.The five teens featured in the documentary participate in the UMB CURE Scholars Program, a pipeline mentoring program that began in 2015 providing science enrichment opportunities to middle and high school students from West Baltimore.Learn more at umaryland.edu/cure-scholars
