The inaugural program for the Maryland Carey Law Dean’s Speaker Series featured Professor Don Gifford discussing gun manufacturer liability, particularly in light of the Connecticut Supreme Court’s 2019 ruling that gunmakers may be held liable for marketing practices. Professor Gifford discussed the Connecticut Supreme Court’s decision, now subject to petition for review before the United States Supreme Court, and its broader implications for liability.Professor Gifford is a nationally-recognized expert in tort law. He is the author or co-author of five books, including both a torts casebook and a legal negotiation text, and numerous articles about topics including mass torts, products liability, technological change and tort law, how race affects the substantive law of torts, medical malpractice, and comparative fault and the liability of joint tortfeasors.
